Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that adds bone material to areas of the jaw where volume has been lost. At Granite Bay, our board-certified oral surgeons perform advanced grafting techniques as part of both first-time full-arch implant cases and complex revision procedures.
Types of Bone Grafting We Perform
Socket preservation grafts — placed at the time of tooth extraction to maintain bone volume for future implants.
Ridge augmentation — rebuilds bone width and height along the jaw ridge using guided bone regeneration techniques with membrane barriers.
Block grafts — autogenous (your own) bone harvested from the chin, ramus, or other sites and placed where major reconstruction is needed.
Sinus lifts — augments the floor of the maxillary sinus to create bone height for upper jaw implants.
When Grafting Is — and Is Not — Needed
Many patients referred for bone grafting may instead be candidates for zygomatic implants, which bypass bone-deficient areas entirely without grafting. Our surgeons evaluate both options using CBCT 3D imaging and recommend the approach that gets you to permanent teeth fastest.
If bone grafting is required, healing typically takes 4–6 months before implant placement. During this time, you will have temporary teeth. The investment in proper bone foundation dramatically improves the long-term success of your All-on-4 or All-on-6 implants.
